Muck City Fest in Palm Beach County

WHO/WHAT:

Feeding South Florida has for the second year in a row joined forces with Tampa Bay Buccaneer/former Glades Central Raider James Lee, the James Lee Children’s Foundation, the Tyler McLellan Foundation and the City of Belle Glade to provide nutritious food for families who are facing hunger. During the James Lee Children’s Foundation’s June 9 Muck City Fest, open to the public at Lakeshore Park in Belle Glade, Feeding South Florida will have a mobile pantry on site with 20,000 pounds of food for those who are food insecure.

Muck City Fest is an annual sponsored day of family/community activities, free health screenings,information booths, giveaways and fun for all ages hosted by Lee and several of his NFL friends. The event includes food, t-shirts for the first 300 children registered, music, bounce houses, a fire truck from the Belle Glade Fire Department and more—all at no cost to local residents.

In an effort to provide those who are food insecure in underserved communities with nutritious foods, Feeding South Florida operates a mobile food pantry truck throughout South Florida.

Location – Community Medical Group Parking Lot – 27^th Ave and NW 14^th Street, Miami

Time – Distribution begins at 8:30 AM, MFP truck will arrive at 7:30 AM for set-up

Distribution – 8:30 to 10:00 AM – anticipating approx 300 to 350 families who will receive fresh produce

Volunteers – Arrive at 7:30 AM, provided by HealthNet, with approx 6 FSF staff members.

20th Annual National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive

The United States Post Office, Local Letter Carriers and Feeding South Florida, are happy to announce the 20th Annual National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ food drive on Saturday, May 12. On that day, residents can place a bag containing nonperishable food items next to their mailbox, which letter carriers will pick-up when they deliver the mail.

The food collected will be taken to the food bank, sorted and distributed to nearly 600 nonprofits with food pantries and shelters that serve children, families, the elderly, and people with disabilities. The NALC food drive is the largest single day food drive in the country and we could not do it without the support of our staff, agencies, volunteers, and of course the National Association of Letter Carriers. Volunteers will be sorting donations a satellite facility donated by The Palm Beach Post. The address of the facility is 2751 S. Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach. Volunteers are needed from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Call 954-518-1863 for more details.

Share Our Strength Great American Bake Sale

Since 2003, more than 1.7 million people have participated in Share Our Strength's Great American Bake Sale, raising $6 million to make sure no child in America grows up hungry. The effort has rallied some of the culinary world's most recognized celebrities like Food Network stars and national spokespeople Sandra Lee and Duff Goldman. The troops & volunteers from Feeding South Florida will be on site selling bake sale & raffle tickets. Extra Helpings Event

A burger showdown will ensue, where only the best of the best burgers in South Florida will compete under one roof for the coveted Golden Grinder and title.

South Florida has never seen a burger battle quite like The Grind. Taste 30 of the best burgers in town while washing it down with complimentary open bar including Blue Moon craft beer, wine and spirits. Guests and local celebrity judges, including Chef Norman Van Aken, will vote for their favorite burgers provided by restaurants in the 954 and 305. An online competition will take place where cooking enthusiasts can submit their own recipe for the “Best Backyard Burger”.

The Grind has partnered with Miami Culinary Institute to give culinary students the opportunity to work along-side Miami’s top restaurants. VIP tickets are available for those who want to start sampling, voting and mingling an hour before general admission while enjoying the benefits of the VIP lounge. In addition, Feeding South Florida's extra helpings program will recover leftover food at the end of the event.

South Beach Wine and Food Festival

The Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival presented by Food & Wine is a national, star-studded, four-day destination event showcasing the talents of the world’s most renowned wine and spirits producers, chefs and culinary personalities. Hosted by Southern Wine & Spirits of Florida and Florida International University (FIU), the festival benefits FIU’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Management Teaching Restaurant and the Southern Wine & Spirits Beverage Management Center. To date, the Festival has raised more than $12 million for the School.

Nosh Fest 3

Nosh Fest is the premier Jewish Food Festival in South Florida. It was created by members of Temple Beth Emet in 2009 for the primary purpose of providing food to those in need, given the unprecedented levels of unemployment and economic distress throughout Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach Counties. The event’s organizers also wanted to share Jewish cuisine and culture with our neighbors, all while supporting a great cause!

The event this year will benefit Feeding South Florida, WECARE Food Pantry of Broward County and Jewish Family Service of Broward County.

Attendees can “Nosh” traditional Jewish style foods such as corned beef and pastrami, lox and bagels, falafel and Israeli salads, matzo ball soup, potato pancakes (latkes), noodle kugel, and more, plus snacks and treats from local food vendors.

Entertainment options will include a cooking competition, a cooking demonstration, musical performers and plenty of children’s activities.

Tennant Company Organizes Extra Helpings Event in Miami

Tennant Company, a Minneapolis, Minn.-based manufacturer of indoor and outdoor environmental cleaning solutions and specialty floor coatings, is teaming up with Feeding South Florida™ (formerly Daily Bread Food Bank) for an Extra Helpings event to provide food for the hungry. Up to 100 Tennant Company participants, will be at the Intercontinental Hotel in downtown Miami to make 10,000 turkey & cheese sandwiches. Feeding South Florida will then deliver the sandwiches to several downtown Miami not-for-profit organizations that help feed individuals facing food insecurity.

Feeding South Florida’s Extra Helpings is a prepared and perishable food rescue program that enables food to be distributed to agencies throughout South Florida.

Tennant Company selected Feeding South Florida as one of the beneficiaries of its three community-based service projects to be held during the company’s Global Sales Meeting in February in Miami.

Anthea Pennant, director of external affairs for Feeding South Florida, will speak to Tennant Company participants at 12:30 p.m. about the importance of feeding the hungry, and the positive impact that programs such as Extra Helpings can make in the lives of many individuals.

“We’re very pleased that Tennant Company has chosen to collaborate with us through our Extra Helpings program to provide much-needed sandwiches to South Florida’s hungry,” said Pennant.
