When Wachovia customers received notice about the new brand, they were asked to vote for five different charities in the Southeast region to receive the grants, totaling $100,000. While Feeding South Florida won first place, four other esteemed charities also won grants. The second place grant of $25,000 went to March of Dimes of Miami-Dade and Broward, third place ($15,000) to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami-Dade and Broward, the fourth place grant of $10,500 to United Way of Dade, Broward and Monroe Counties, and fifth place ($10,000) went to Goodwill of Miami-Dade and Broward.

“We are extremely honored to have been chosen by Wells Fargo customers to be the first place grant winner, and to be in the company of four other highly respected charities,” said Maria R. Millares, president of Feeding South Florida’s Board of Directors. “This generous grant will help us to continue to fight hunger and help the over 935,000 individuals living in South Florida who are facing food insecurity.”

For every dollar donated, Feeding South Florida can distribute nine pounds of food and grocery items. Out of every dollar donated, 98.4 cents goes directly to feed the hungry.

Shelley Freeman, Wells Fargo’s president of Florida Community Banking, said, “We felt that it was important to let our customers decide who they wanted to receive the grants. We’re very pleased that through our grants, five local charities including Feeding South Florida will have additional resources to help many people in the Southeast region.”

Wachovia banking locations across the Southeast Florida region became Wells Fargo stores over the July 9 weekend as a result of the largest bank merger in U.S. history. With the integration, customers will be able to access more than 6,200 Wells Fargo banking store locations and 12,000 ATMs across the U.S., along with additional products and services. All banking stores have been remodeled to reflect the Wells Fargo brand and open floor plan; 28 of the stores in the Southeast Florida region also feature a historic community mural.

FSF Board President Featured in El Nuevo Herald
