On Tuesday, May 19th, Daily Bread Food Bank welcomed Grainger Industrial Supplies representatives Eric McHugh, David Meingasner, Ray Muniz and Shelly Thayer to our administrative office in Miami. These good people from Grainger toured our facility and learned about our daily operations of ending hunger in South Florida. After the tour, West Palm Beach branch manager Eric McHugh and Broward/Pompano Beach manager David Meingasner each presented Daily Bread Food Bank a check for $10,000 on behalf of The Grainger Foundation.

"We are proud to be helping the Daily Bread Food Bank with this donation," said branch manager Eric McHugh. "It is important to help our local community during such extraordinary times. We hope this gift will make a difference."

This wonderful gift will certainly make a difference to the less fortunate people in South Florida. Daily Bread Food Bank would like to thank The Grainger Foundation and the fine people of the South Florida Grainger branches that helped make this donation possible.

THANK YOU GRAINGER!

2009 NALC Food Drive

The 2009 NALC Letter Carrier's Food Drive Comes Through Again!

On Saturday, May 9, the 17th annual National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) 'Stamp Out Hunger' Food Drive was held nationwide. Here in South Florida, Daily Bread Food Bank was one of the event's beneficiaries and the donations we received will go to help over 800,000 people who are hungry and needing assistance. This year the food drive couldn't have come at a better time as the effects from our country's current economic downturn have only compounded the annual food shortage in South Florida. Traditionally, there is a decrease in donations leading up to and during the summer months, which causes our shelves to go bare. Additionally, with the increase in struggling families and needy children being out of school and not receiving their free or reduced meals, the demand for food has been even greater.

The numbers are still being tallied, but this already looks like another great year for the NALC 'Stamp Out Hunger' Food Drive. Daily Bread Food Bank would like to thank everyone who helped make this another great day of giving!

To see pics from the 2009 NALC Food Drive, click the stamp on the right.

On Wednesday, August 20th, 790 the Ticket's Dan Lebatard Show with Stugotz had another one of their popular Dania Jai Alai outings. These events are always fun to attend, but this time they decided to do more than just have a good time. The guys at 790 chose to promote a food drive for Daily Bread Food Bank at their event. The result was over 612 pounds of food collected from the loyal listeners of the Dan Lebatard Show with Stugotz! Daily Bread Food Bank would like to thank Dan LeBatard, Stugotz, Marc Hochman and everyone at 790 the Ticket for their promotion and help. We would also like to thank Marty Fleischman of Dania Jai Alai for providing a fantastic venue for the food drive. We look forward to any future partnerships with these great people who have a sincere interest in ending South Florida hunger!

Being in town for the annual United States Conference of Mayors, on June 23rd the Mayor of San Francisco, Gavin Newsom took a moment out of his busy schedule and paid a visit to Daily Bread Food Bank. There he was greeted by Associate Director Robert Peters and staff, given a full tour of the facility and informed of the many programs Daily Bread Food Bank runs in the community. Specifically, Mayor Newsom was excited to hear about our backpack program for children and he requested a detailed summary of the program to pass along to the food bank in his city. We were happy to have Mayor Newsom as our guest and share our ideas about feeding hungry people. We thank him and his staff for taking the time to visit us.
